This feels weird. Sitting directly across the table from my wife. Having food brought to us. Being able to completely focus on what the other person is saying. Activities during dinnertime at home are often split between chatting about our day, keeping our kid occupied, helping him gulp down medication, and cajoling him to eat a couple bites if we’re lucky. So when someone else puts him to bed, allowing the two of us to have a normal, two-person meal, it’s like I’m meeting her again for the first time. Nights like that mean more now than they ever have, and the only way we can pull them off is through the help of some amazing friends and family.
